Harlow in Hollywood: The Blonde Bombshell in the Glamour Capital, 1928-1937.
Santa Monica, CA: Angel City Press, 2011 Stock Code: 142329
First edition, first printing, presentation copy to Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, inscribed by both authors on the half-title: "To Hugh Hefner with all good wishes Mark A. Viera", & "To Hef - a man who knows a few things about beautiful women! Best - Darrell Rooney". Hefner has inserted paper clips at several pages, his method of marking notable places in books.
"My blonde obsession began with the movies in the 1930s, with Jean Harlow, Jean Rogers (in 'Flash Gordon'), Alice Faye and Betty Grable" (Tweet by Hugh Hefner, 11 November 2009). Harlow in Hollywood is a richly illustrated biography of Jean Harlow's Hollywood years, cut short by her early death at 26 from a cerebral edema.
Following the death of Hefner in 2017, his library was sold with proceeds going to the Hugh M. Hefner Foundation, dedicated to promoting and preserving individual liberty, with a focus on sexual freedom and drug decriminalization. His posthumous bookplate is affixed to the front pastedown.
