First edition of Boisguilbert's first work, a French translation of Herodian's colourful history, originally written in Greek in the third century and covering the Roman Empire from the death of Marcus Aurelius to the accession of Gordian III.
Though first published in 1675, the work received its privilège in 1673.
Description
Two parts in one volume, duodecimo (145 x 83 mm). Contemporary calf, spine lettered in gilt with gilt motifs to compartments.
Condition
A little rubbed, small chip at head of spine, small jotting to title page and rear endpaper, one signature slightly sprung, a few minor blemishes and tiny chips to page extremities, p. 67 of first part with short closed tear touching text but without loss. A very good copy.
