Notes

First edition, first impression, presentation copy to then-prime minister Harold Wilson (who had also served as prime minister 1964-1970, therefore covering most of the period which the book details), inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper "For Harold Wilson with best wishes for Christmas - the 1970s volume will be a slimmer one altogether! Alexander Walker December 1974". The book remained in the possession of Wilson and his wife Mary until the dispersal of their estate following Mary's death in 2018.
