First edition, first printing. Parloa's eighth book covers a range of topics ranging from the maintenance of pantries to the digestive system. Parloa was a "pioneer in home economics education", sometimes described as a founder of the discipline, and was arguably America's first celebrity cook (ANB). Her first work, The Appledore Cook Book, was published in 1872. She gave her first public lecture on cookery in the summer of 1876 in New London, Connecticut, and in the spring of 1877 she gave several popular lectures in Boston, opening a cooking school there the following autumn.
