In Memoriam Samuel Mowry Nicholson. Stock Code: 131406
An attractive memorial book for the banker Samuel Mowry Nicholson, finely printed on vellum, and commissioned by his fellow directors of the company. The book tells us that Nicholson was "a prominent banker, a manufacturer of national renown, an outstanding personality in the financial affairs of his native city, for more than forty years a director of the Union Trust Company and since 1912 a member of its executive committee". No other copy could be traced in institutions or commerce; the text finishes "In testimony whereof the Secretary of this Corporation is directed to enter this memorial on the records and to forward to Colonel Nicholson's family a copy suitably engrossed", dated 10 April 1939 and signed by the secretary H. Raymond Fox, implying that this is the latter copy, one of only two made.
4 unbound sheets of vellum, quarto, housed within black imitation leather portfolio, ribbon bookmark, silk endpapers.
With hand-decorated initials and floral tailpieces in silver, blue and brown.
In fine condition.
