In Sight of Mount Monadnock. No place : Privately Printed, 1894 [ie 1914 or 1918] Stock Code: 146000
Second separate edition of this unauthorized pamphlet reprinting an 1892 newspaper article by Kipling. This is a fresh copy of a rare publication.
"Styled the 'falsely dated edition' by Livingston and dated '1894' in Roman numerals on the title-page and front cover, this edition is said by Livingston and Stewart to have been actually printed in 1918 or 1919, and copied from the separate edition which had appeared in 1904 E1-73. The catalogue description in Hueffner 1928 397 says there were forty copies, and speculates that the 'X' of the Roman numeral date was misplaced before the final 'C' rather than after, yielding a publication date of 1914" (Richards).
Octavo, pp. . Original wrappers tied with yellow silk thread, titles printed in black to front cover, untrimmed, unopened.
Mounted monochrome photograph of Mount Monadnock on title page.
Book label of Christian Heuer to front pastedown. Light dust-soiling and a couple of faint stains to wrappers, else fresh, internally crisp; a near-fine copy.
