First edition, first printing, presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "I love you very much - and you are very very bright - I wish that I was like you Janie". From the library of the academic and teacher Dr William ("Woods") Shelton Gray, Jr (1926-1993) who was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, and received his PhD from the University of Exeter. He established a correspondence with T. S. Eliot, W. H. Auden (who dedicated his poem "The Aliens" to him), and a number of other English and American writers and poets. His most intimate correspondent appears to have been Jane's husband Paul Bowles, whom he visited a number of times in Tangier. Presentation copies of this author's works are uncommon.Description
