NotesA handsomely bound copy of Dante's great work, in the original Italian. Inscribed to the polymath and literary patron Edward Marsh (1872-1953): "Edward Marsh from his affectionate aunt A M. Perceval Nov. 18th 1894". Marsh would go on to publish the Georgian Poetry anthologies, and was a sponsor of numerous poets including Rupert Brooke and Siegfried Sassoon.
Large octavo (239 x 155 mm). Contemporary tan calf, red calf label, spine richly gilt to compartments, gilt foliate roll-tooled border to covers enclosing gilt vase centrepieces, gilt turn-ins, marbled endpapers, gilt edges.
With black and white illustrations.
Pen inscriptions to front free endpaper. Additional portrait of Dante pasted as frontispiece. A few light marks to covers, occasional foxing to contents. A very attractive copy.
