A scarce presentation copy of Vargas Llosa's major novel, inscribed by him on the first blank to the Russian translator Nina Bulgakova in the year this edition was printed. The novel was first published in 1963. Bulgakova travelled Central and South America in the 1960s; her Spanish translation of selected Russian and Soviet poetry was printed in Cuba in 1966.
