La Mode.Paris, Imprimerie nationale, 1980 Stock Code: 127560
NotesFirst edition of this well-illustrated survey of twentieth-century fashion, here in a somewhat bizarre, if fitting, binding, featuring a lock of hair pinned by a "tortoiseshell" peigne in the style of one featured in the work.
La Mode is a key work by the then honorary president of the Union française des Arts du Costume, Bruno du Roselle: "fashion holds no secrets for Bruno du Roselle, long-time delegate to the French Federation for women's prêt-à-porter. From the outset the present work puts the art of dressing back in its economic and psychosociological contexts, in Paris of course, but also in London, New York, even Beijing and Bangui" (From contemporary review in Le Monde, 22/04/1981, our translation).
Quarto. Full calf by A. Imbert lettered in blind to the spine, lock of blond hair and "tortoiseshell" peigne to the front board, green and brown streaked endpapers, original laminated wraps bound in front and back.
Profusely illustrated in colour and black and white.
Slightly rubbed, short split at the tail of the spine, else very good.
