Ladies' Garment Cutting and Making.
A Standard Textbook. Giving an Introduction in all Branches of Ladies' Garment Cutting, Dress Cutting, Modelling, and Practical Tailoring. Diagrams and Fashion Illustrations by Leonora Curry.London, New Era Publishing Co. Ltd. 1950 Stock Code: 139175
NotesThird edition, updated and expanded from both the first of 1935 and second of 1943. This is a well-preserved copy, featuring fascinating and relevant annotations, of a book most often found badly impacted by heavy use. It is undoubtedly a tailoring "standard text, being very well illustrated by Leonora Curry with fashions, patterns, and diagrams" (Seligman).
This copy has a quantity of careful additions and corrections to the text, particularly to the section on short coats, including a sheet stapled to a draft on the construction of patterns, which also has directly inked corrections, similar emendation in the appendix on short jackets; indexing added to the front endpapers, and a loosely inserted table of " proportionate measures" on a memo sheet from Town Tailors Ltd., the Leeds-based manufacturing arm of the high street Weaver to Wearer chain. The excellent illustrations are by Leonora Curry who trained at St. Martin's before joining the influential Tailor and Cutter as an artist for its publications, later running their tailoring academy before becoming a respected trade journalist and promoter of the fashion industry.
Quarto. Original dark blue morocco-grained half roan, matching cloth, title gilt to the spine, linen hinges.
5 halftone plates, profusely illustrated with patterns and sketches, many full-page.
Moderately rubbed at the extremities, corners softened, text toned, but overall very good.
