While living with his family in Cambridge, Massachusetts between 1870 and 1872, Henry James wrote six travel sketches of America and Canada for the Nation. Four of them were reprinted in Portraits of Places (1885); two of them, Lake George and From Lake George to Burlington, are reprinted here for the first time.
