Lawrence of Arabia.London: The Corvinus Press, 1936 Stock Code: 145709
Inscribed by Liddell Hart to his father-in-lawSigned limited edition, number 9 of 12 copies printed for Liddell Hart and signed by him and Ronald Storrs (from a total edition of 128), additionally inscribed by Liddell Hart to his father-in-law opposite the limitation page: "It has been given by him, as a token of long and intimate friendship, to J. J. Stone, BH Liddell Hart".
Lieutenant J. J. Stone was Liddell-Hart's assistant adjutant at Stroud. His daughter Jessie married Liddell Hart in April 1918, and she has also inscribed this copy, on the front free endpaper, to her father: "To Victor Pater, with all good wishes from Jessica Liddell Hart - 'Herself' to 'T.E.'" - a joking reference to the title of the address by Ronald Storrs, "Lawrence. 'Himself.'"
The book, attractively produced by the Corvinus Press and bound by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, prints Liddell Hart's and Storrs's eulogy addresses given at a luncheon in memory of Lawrence, about a month after his death.
Quarto. Original sand half cloth, matching kinari chiri paper sides by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, spine lettered in gilt, single gilt rules at spine and corner edges, Corvinus device to front cover, top edge gilt, others uncut. With the original glassine jacket and paper flaps.
A little foxing to edges, else a fine copy in the original glassine, notably well-preserved.
