Les Contes des Fées.Paris: Librairie de Théodore Lefèvre et Cie, Émile Guérin, [c.1865] Stock Code: 145976
An attractively illustrated early edition in French, gathering nine of Perrault's classic tales. Usually avidly leafed through by young readers, copies in such good condition are rare.
This edition includes "Le Petit Chaperon Rouge" (Little Red Riding Hood), "Le Petit-Poucet" (Tom Thumb), "Le Chat-Botté" (Puss in Boots), "Cendrillon" (Cinderella), and "La Barbe-Bleue" (Blue Beard) which is the principal archetype underlying Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre.
Tall octavo. Original red cloth-backed colour pictorial boards.
Engraved frontispiece, title vignette, numerous in-text illustrations and 15 full-page, all coloured in contemporary hand, after Perrichon, Duhamel-Noel, Dumont, Castel, and others.
A hint of wear to extremities, the binding otherwise sound and notably unfaded, internally fresh and clean; a bright copy.
