The recipient, Carolyn Cassady (1923-2013), lead an "extraordinary life with the Beat writers Neal Cassady, her husband, and Jack Kerouac, her lover. Carolyn was an unlikely, and in many ways an unwilling, Beat icon herself" (The Guardian). Ferlinghetti founded City Lights Books through which she published Beat poets in her Pocket Poets Series. She also became a frequent character in Kerouac's work.
Folio. Original green cloth boards, titles in gilt to spine, red endpapers. With dust jacket. Housed in custom green cloth chemise and matching slipcase with titles in gilt to spine.
