NotesFirst edition. Victorian biography of Sir Harry Lumsden, that includes an extensive number of letters, written mostly to his father, never otherwise published. "Lumsden's letters project a strong, positive image of the man, and they enshew the backbiting common within army hierarchy" (Riddick). Lumsden was a notable cavalry commander, and was the originator of khaki uniform.
Octavo. Original oatmeal cloth with gilt lettering to spine and amorial family crest in block and gilt to upper board.
Photogravure frontispiece and one other similar portrait, ten half-tone plates, two full-page plans, folding facsimile letter, folding map at rear.
Spine slightly crumpled, boards a little soiled, hinges cracked, corners a tad worn, end papers toned, else a good copy.
