Lupercal.London: Faber and Faber, 1960 Stock Code: 125866
Presentation copy to Hughes's uncle and familyFirst edition, first impression, presentation copy, inscribed by Hughes a week prior to the official publication date to his paternal uncle Walter and his family, "To Walter & Alice & Barbara with love from Ted March 11th, 1960", on the title page. Hughes received six author's copies from Faber on 23 February, some three weeks before the official publication date. As this inscription is dated in the week prior to the book's publication, it is conceivable that this copy is one of those half-dozen. Loosely inserted is a copy of the poem "Groom's Dream" (which also appears in Lupercal), as separately issued in stapled wrappers in November 1957 by the Grecourt Review, an undergraduate publication at Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts, where Sylvia Plath was teaching at the time.
Octavo. Original maroon cloth. With dust jacket.
A near-fine copy in the jacket, toned with small losses at extremities of spine.
