Mathematical Investigations in the Theory of Value and Prices.New Haven: Yale University Press, 1926 Stock Code: 147722
First edition in book form, second printing, presentation copy to Fisher's fellow economist Frank Knox, inscribed on the front free endpaper "To Mr. Frank A. Knox with the compliments of Irving Fisher March 1927". Frank Knox (1905-1976) taught economics at Queen's University in Canada from 1924 to 1977, and edited the Canadian Banker from 1940 to 1957.
Fisher's "startlingly original PhD thesis" (Blaug) presents a general mathematical model of the determination of value and prices, and established his reputation. It is noted as containing, among other things, the design of a machine to illustrate general equilibrium in a multi-market economy.
The thesis was first published in the journal Transactions of the Connecticut Academy, Vol. IX, July 1892, and in the present book form in October 1925, with this second printing following in May 1926.
Octavo. Original blue cloth, spine and front cover lettered gilt.
Spine very lightly sunned, a few trivial marks to cloth; a near-fine copy.
