First edition in German of the four memoirs which together made up part of what was to become Walras's Théorie mathématique de la richesse sociale, originally published in 1877. The translator, Ludwig von Winterfeld, was a law student from Zurich. Having heard Walras lecture at Lausanne, in 1876 he offered to prepare a translation of Walras's Eléments d'économie politique pure. Walras instead gave him the Quatre mémoires.

Ink ownership inscription and ownership stamp to the half-title and title-page respectively of the German economist Erich Schneider, with a few pencil under- and side-rulings. A very good copy.
