NotesChristmas card inscribed by the author to the manuscript collector and dealer Roy Davids, "Roy-Forge ahead-Seamus & Marie-with thanks for the Sothebys try earlier in the year. (I got her a Rosart-Gregory drawing for Christmas-still at framer's-cheaper, molto!) S. PPS. But maybe even better for the purpose-". The card features the first verse from his then-unpublished poem, "Midnight Anvil", (published in full in District and Circle, 2006), in which, to mark the end of the old millennium, blacksmith Barney Devlin struck his anvil 12 times while someone held up a mobile phone so his nephew in Canada could hear it.
