Notes

One of a series of photos taken by William Amos Haines (1877-1953), who travelled through the United States in the first decades of the 20th century making early panoramas with a rotating Kodak Cirkut camera. He was particularly interested in California's Spanish missions, and took photographs of a number of these sites around 1910. Mission San Luis Obispo de Tulsa was founded by Father Junipero Serra in 1772. The wooden clapboard and cupola visible in this photo were added during modernisation efforts in the 1880s, but were removed when the building was restored to its original appearance in the 1930s.
