Signed by the great bluesman

Signed by the great bluesman on the jacket cover, "Big Bill Broonzy", possibly dating to his tour of England in 1957. The EP was issued in Pye Nixa's "Jazz Today Series" and comprises four originals, one with orchestral accompaniment. Joe Meek, later a pioneering record producer, was co-engineer. Discs inscribed by Broonzy are certainly uncommon.

"Big Bill Broonzy's performing career spanned five decades, taking him from the Deep South to Chicago and on to Europe, where he became one of the first and most effective ambassadors for American blues. As a recording artist, he recorded over 250 songs - many of them his own - prior to World War II and hundreds more in the postwar era. He also played as a sideman at countless sessions for other artists. As an instrumentalist, he could handle down-home finger picking or single-string electric styles and, even late in his career, could flash techniques that dazzled the guitar-oriented folk-music audience. Although he ended his career singing protest songs and other folk material in coffeehouses and cabarets, Broonzy was the central character in the first generation of Chicago blues musicians and spent most of his adult life performing blues, ragtime, hokum, and pop material for the so-called race market. Because he was one of the first blues artists to work successfully for white audiences, though, Broonzy helped shape the way several generations thought about the blues" (American National Biography).
