Finely bound by Sangorski & Sutcliffe in contemporary yellow ochre half calf, spines richly gilt, raised bands, twin black labels, black-and-gold chequerboard paper sides and endpapers, all edges gilt. Housed in matching slipcases, the first three volumes in one and the fourth in another.
Illustrated throughout with chromolithographic plates, photographic plates and illustrations in the text.
Paperclip mark to verso of front free endpaper and recto of first blank, a couple of very small fox marks, a modicum of rubbing to corners and some gentle mellowing to spines, slipcases rubbed to extremities. Overall a handsome set in very good condition.
