Monk.Arpenteur/Gallimard, Paris , 1996 Stock Code: 76039
NotesFirst edition. Award-winning biography of Monk by the French pianist Laurent de Wilde, this copy enigmatically inscribed by de Wilde; "For Max Roach whose help and love for art and music showed me the way into Thelonius's music. Too bad they wouldn't let me in" de Wilde was educated at the École Normale Supérieure, received a music scholarship at Long Island University. Following his studies in he remained in New York and established himself on the scene joining Eddie Henderson's band, and recording with Henderson and Ralph Moore. His 1992 album Open Exchange won the Django Reinhardt Prize from the Académie du Jazz. The present work won the Charles Delaunay Prize for best jazz book of the year. Roach's work with Monk and others during the 40s entirely changed the nature of the drummer's art, in jazz and beyond.
Octavo. Original card wraps. With the pictorial dust jacket.
Jacket just a little chafed at the edges, a very good copy.
