My Wanderings. Being Travels in the East in 1846-47, 1850-51, 1852-53.London: A. Gadsby, 1869-68 Stock Code: 139382
First published in 1855, this "interesting and informative travelogue" (Toledano, p. 121) went through a huge number of editions. John Gadsby (1809-1893), described by the General Baptist Magazine as "the celebrated Eastern Traveller", was co-founder with his father William Gadsby, Strict and Particular Baptist minister, of the Gospel Standard Magazine. Much of My Wanderings is devoted to Egypt, with excursions to Jerusalem, Beersheba and Beirut.
2 volumes, octavo. Original dark brown morocco-grained cloth sometime neatly rebacked with the original spines laid-down, endpapers renewed.
Illustrated throughout with wood engravings.
Scattered foxing, small ink splash-stain to fore-edge of vol. I yet overall a very good copy.
