First edition, first impression, number 783 of 800 copies. Frederic Masson (1847-1923) was a French historian who specialised in Napoleonic history and produced a series of biographical works about Napoleon and his family, including the present title.

Description

Large quarto (332 x 265 mm). Contemporary half green morocco by Bumpus, raised bands to spine, compartments lettered and tooled in gilt, double gilt rule to green cloth sides, gilt coat of arms to front cover, blue endpapers.

Illustrations

Colour frontispiece, 43 plates, all with captioned tissue guards, tipped-in facsimile letter.

Condition

Spine sunned, occasional foxing to text block. A near-fine copy.
