New Verse.[London: Geoffrey Grigson,] 1933-9 Stock Code: 141132
NotesA complete and near-fine run of "the most influential British poetry magazine of the 1930s", with the uncommonly found wraparound band for the W. H. Auden double-issue released in November 1937 (ODNB).
New Verse published "the finest poets of the W. H. Auden generation", such as Louis MacNeice, Stephen Spender, Dylan Thomas, Kathleen Raine, and Grigson himself, "but the magazine was almost equally known for his own criticism of his contemporaries, always unsparing and at times ferocious" (ibid.).
32 volumes, octavo. Original white paper wrappers wire-stitched as issued printed in black, titles printed to front covers in multiple colours. Volume 26 with the red wraparound band.
Negligible creasing to edges, light foxing to wrappers and contents, occasional check marks and "A"'s in pencil to margins; overall a remarkably well-preserved near-fine set.
