A later edition of Layard's account of his discoveries at Nineveh, first published in two volumes in 1849, with the abridged edition first published in 1851.
Octavo. Original reddish-brown cloth, spine lettered in gilt, gilt Assyrian sphinx centrepiece to front cover, blue endpapers. With a tipped in autograph letter on a single bifolium (185 x 120 mm) to the front free endpaper.

Spine slightly rolled, slight bumping to spine ends and corners, slight rubbing and bumping to extremities, small open tear to bottom of p. 31 not affecting text, light foxing to endpapers. A very good copy.
