The Charles Magnier binding workshop was created in 1853 in Paris and lasted until 1956.
Provenance: from the collection of Colonel Samuel Barrett Miles (1838-1914), British Arabist and colonial officer, with his widow's bequest plate to Bath Public Library dated 1920 to the front pastedown, and associated manuscript shelf-marks and blindstamps to the text as usual.
Small folio in fours (276 x 189 mm). Contemporary French brown half morocco signed Magnier, titles and rich floral motifs in gilt on spine, marbled boards and endpapers, top edge gilt, others untrimmed.
5 colour maps including one double-page, 62 engraved plates of views and portraits, numerous in-text maps and illustrations.
Rubbed, some wear to tips, light spotting and foxing throughout; else a very nice copy.
