"The general and decided approbation which the Patent Boarding Defence has met from those gentlemen, who have had an opportunity of inspecting the specimens, has led me to the farther consideration of the subject of Arming Private Ships..." From the Author's Preface. When deployed the system rapidly extended a perimeter defence of over 250 bayonets around the ship. A model of the Boarding Defence "upon a scale of two inches to the foot... may be inspected; as also specimens in the proper dimensions for use, by application to the patentee..."
