First collected edition in French of the author's collected works. The first part is entirely devoted to electricity and includes previously unpublished pieces. Translated by Jacques Barbeu-Dubourg (1709-1779) from the fourth edition in the original English. A close friend of Franklin and his translator and publisher in France, Barbeu-Dubourg was also the inventor of a portable lightning rod.

2 volumes in one, quarto (250 x 190 mm). Contemporary cat's paw calf, red morocco title label, gilt in compartments, boards ruled in blind, marbled endpapers, all edges red, green silk page-marker.

Condition
Book label of 19th-century Italian publisher Leo S. Olschki to front pastedown; a few contemporary or early corrections in ink. Joints expertly repaired, minor scuffing to boards, small puncture to front free endpaper, prelims slightly toned, sporadic dampstaining to margins, the occasional light spot. A very good copy.
