First edition of the collected works of Turgot, economist, philosopher and administrator, edited by Dupont de Nemours, with his valuable annotations. The first volume comprises Mémoires sur la vie, l'administration et les ouvrages de M. Turgot, seconde édition, written by Dupont and first published in 1782.
A leading economic theorist in France, Turgot's Réflexions sur la formation et la distribution des richesses (first published in the physiocrat journal Éphemérides du Citoyen in 1769-70) was a major influence on the thinking of Adam Smith. As well as economic theory and policy, Turgot wrote on theology, philosophy, and contributed articles for the great Encyclopédie of Diderot and d'Alembert.
9 volumes, octavo (210 x 127 mm). Contemporary half calf and marbled boards, calf corners, spines ruled and decorated gilt, red morocco labels.
