Œuvres philosophiques et dramatiques.Amsterdam: [no publisher stated], 1772 Stock Code: 141232
First edition of Diderot's collected philosophical and theatrical works. It is rare to find a complete set as each volume has both a collective title page and its own, and could have been sold separately.
There were two editions of published in Amsterdam that year, the other being the octavo-format edition of Marc Michel Rey, though the present edition is generally accepted to have priority.
Printed in the year of the Encyclopédie's long-awaited publication, this includes Diderot's writings on mathematics, letters on the deaf and mute, and the blind, his thoughts on beauty, nature, and Chinese philosophy, and two plays.
6 volumes, duodecimo (180 x 105 mm). Contemporary marbled paper wrappers, contemporary manuscript titles in ink to paper spine labels, untrimmed.
20 engraved plates (including frontispiece), of which 7 folding, typographic decorations.
Contemporary ink shelf mark to pastedowns. Spines sunned, a couple of wrappers starting, internally clean and fresh; a very good set indeed.
