In the original wrappers
First separate edition. On the Economy of Machinery and Manufactures was first published in 1832, and second and third editions soon followed that same year. This pamphlet comprises three additional chapters by Babbage that examine questions of political economy and which were newly included in the third edition. To make the text available to owners of the first and second editions it was also issued separately, as here, to supplement their own copies. The work is relatively scarce in institutions: WorldCat and Library Hub locate five in the UK (BL, Cambridge, UoL, LSE, Sheffield) and just five further copies worldwide (one apiece in Australia, Netherlands, Sweden, Poland, and the US, the latter at the Baker Library, Harvard).
