Operations in Waziristan 1919-1920.
(Second Edition). Compiled by the General Staff Army Headquarters India 1923.Delhi, Government Central Press: 1923 Stock Code: 140308
NotesSecond edition, 1, 900 copies printed, following the first of 1921 (Calcutta: Superintendent Government Printing), the note following the title page reading, "This edition cancels the previous (1921) edition, copies of which should be destroyed". Of the three end-pocket maps, two (No. 4 General Map and Sketch Map) are dated 1923, so are presumably updated from the first edition. This is a notably uncommon, highly-detailed, official account of operations to suppress the unrest among the Mahsuds and Wazirs during the period of uncertainty that followed the Third Afghan War (May-August 1919). Library Hub locates copies at just four British and Irish institutional libraries (British Library, Scotland (2), Oxford, Essex), WorldCat adding some 14 locations worldwide.
Tall octavo. Original dark green fine oblique-grain cloth spine, pale grey-green paper covered boards, printed in black to front cover.
32 plates (19 folding and including 4 extensive folding panoramas), 7 folding maps (3 in end-pocket, 2 of these large and coloured), 8 folding line-drawn panoramas.
Neat contemporary penciled ownership inscription to front free endpaper. Some wear to binding, occasional creasing, corners lightly bumped with concomitant inward-folding yet overall this is a surprisingly well preserved copy.
