First edition in English, first impression, one of 500 copies, and particularly scarce in this condition. Genet's debut novel is a semi-autobiographical account of a drag queen's journey through the Parisian underworld. Written while the author was in prison, Our Lady of the Flowers was called an "epic of masturbation" by Jean-Paul Sartre, and the book was an important influence on the Beat poets.
Genet's novel was originally published in French as Notre-Dame-des-Fleurs in 1943.

Octavo. Original red morocco, spine lettered in gilt, sketch of the author by Jean Cocteau to front cover in gilt, marbled endpapers, pink silk bookmarker. Housed in the publisher's cardboard slipcase.
