"Hilda's copy" from Francis MeynellFirst Nonesuch edition, one of 645 copies printed in the Fell types on handmade paper, this copy out of series and marked "Hilda's copy" in ink by the printer, Francis Meynell (1891-1975). Hilda Peppercorn (1886-1962), a concert pianist (performing as Hilda Saxe), was Meynell's first wife.
Octavo. Original red and cream patterned-paper boards, titles printed in black to paper spine label, partly unopened, untrimmed. With dust jacket.
Typographic decorative borders and head pieces, decorative opening initials.
Spine toned, slight rubbing, the binding otherwise sound and clean, faint offsetting to endpapers, else internally crisp. A near-fine copy in very good jacket, spine panel sunned, small nick with loss to upper edge of front panel, a hint of dust-soiling.
