The recipient was the Beat poet Kevin Ring, who also founded Beat Scene, a British magazine dedicated to the work, the history and the cultural influences of the Beat Generation.
Janet Michelle "Jan" Kerouac (1952-1996) was the only child of beat generation author Jack Kerouac and Joan Haverty Kerouac. Her parents were estranged when she was born and Jack Kerouac denied being her father until she was 9, when he took a paternity test and then only acknowledged her as his daughter. A writer herself, she had been working on Parrot Fever, about the death of her mother, Joan Haverty, in 1991.
