Paths of Glory.New York: The Viking Press, 1935 Stock Code: 149523
First edition, first printing, presentation copy inscribed on the first blank "To Harry Lichtig, with cordial best wishes, from Humphrey Cobb", the recipient was, in all likelihood, the Hollywood agent from the Lichtig & Englander agency. This is a great association copy.
Twenty-two years after its publication, Humphrey Cobb's anti-war masterpiece was adapted into the acclaimed film of the same title, directed by Stanley Kubrick and starring Kirk Douglas. The film was banned in France until 1974 due to its negative depiction of the French military.
Octavo. Original red and blue cloth, titles to spine and front panel in blind on gilt ground, top edge red, fore edge untrimmed. With dust jacket.
Title page printed in red and black.
A hint of wear to corners, slight sunning along upper egde, the binding otherwise sound, internally fresh and clean. A very good copy indeed in the very good jacket, sometime laminated, light wear with slight loss to corners, somewhat dust-dulled, not price-clipped.
