First Rackham edition. Barrie asked Rackham to illustrate not the play Peter Pan (which remained unpublished until 1928) but make a new book from those chapters from The Little White Bird (1902) that had first introduced the character.
Description
Quarto. Original russet brown cloth, titles and pictorial decoration to spine and front board gilt, dark grey endpapers with a map to the front free endpaper, edges stained brown.
Illustrations
Tipped-in colour frontispiece and 49 plates on dark grey paper with printed tissue guards.
Condition
Bookplate to front free endpaper, ownership inscription to front pastedown. A little wear to extremities, spine faded, spotting to half-title, contents faintly toned with occasional light spots. A very good copy.
