Edited from his posthumous writings by Rush Rhees and translated into English by Raymond Hargreaves and Roger White.Oxford: Basil Blackwell, 1975 Stock Code: 132934
NotesFirst edition in English of Wittgenstein's Philosophische Bemerkungen (first 1964), edited by Wittgenstein's student and close friend, the American philosopher Rush Rhees. Monk calls it "the most verificationist, and at the same time the most phenomenological, of all his writings. It uses the tools adopted by the Vienna Circle for a task diametrically opposed to their own" (Monk, p. 292). As Wittgenstein's original typescript was merely a long sequence of paragraphs, Rhees is responsible for the text's division into sections.
Octavo. Original brown cloth, spine lettered in gilt. With the dust jacket.
Erratum slip tipped in opposite p. 9.
Spine ends bruised, neat pencil comment at end of Foreword, 2 cm closed tear and some creasing to pp. 245-6 not affecting text, in all a near-fine copy in the jacket, spine sunned and extremities a little rubbed.
