Notes

First Edition, Offprinted. One of about 50 copies. With the author's signed presentation inscription, "For Bobbie Gafford who sat through it in Birmingham Eudora Welty". The recipient was Charlotte Gafford the Professor of Writing Studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her nickname "Bobbie" seems universally to have been used. Place in Fiction is Welty's major literary statement and provided the title essay in her collection published a few years later.
