Planning and the Price Mechanism.
London: George Allen & Unwin, 1948 Stock Code: 129794
First edition, first impression, of Meade's solution to the contemporary economic problems faced by Britain in the post-war years. Written during his LSE years, he contributed this book to the public debate on planning where "he argued persuasively for the restoration of the market system and the use of financial policy instruments which work through the price mechanism for the control of inflation and deflation. He also urged the use of taxation, including if necessary and feasible a capital levy, to promote a more egalitarian distribution of income and wealth" (ODNB).
