Clough had started on his revision of Dryden's translation of Plutarch in America, whence he had sailed in October 1852 with W. M. Thackeray, spending nine months in a vain search for a permanent job.
5 volumes, large octavo (230 x 148 mm). Contemporary red half morocco, marbled boards, titles to spines in gilt, top edges gilt, others untrimmed, marbled endpapers.
