Limited edition, inscribed by the author for the surrealist book collector John Lyle, the author's inscription "To John Lyle" repeatedly down the page in different pens, number 432 of 1,050 copies.
A loose printed page from an unknown source is laid-in. On one side there is a French-English parallel text of Mesens's Poem from Complete Woman, which was first published in 1931. On the other side there is an extract from Melmoth the Wanderer (1820) by Charles Robert Maturin (1782-1824).

Octavo. Original white wrappers, spine and front wrapper lettered in black. With the original glassine jacket.

With 10 illustrations by Magritte in the text.
Condition
Bookplate of John Lyle to front free endpaper. Some pages unopened. An excellent copy in the original jacket, with a few dark spots to the panels.
