Poems.
London: Sidgwick & Jackson, Limited, 1911 Stock Code: 125916
First edition, first impression, one of 500 copies issued. Poems was Brooke's first collection, his previous poetry having been written for school competitions and printed solely for private distribution. Brooke developed a fatal case of blood poisoning from an insect bite while anchored off Skyros; he died on 23 April 1915 aboard a hospital ship, just two days before the Allies launched their ill-fated invasion of Gallipoli. The poet's second book, 1914 and Other Poems, whose war sonnets Churchill described as "incomparable", was published posthumously.
