Poems.London, Faber & Faber Ltd, 1933 Stock Code: 139518
NotesSecond and enlarged edition, first printing, presentation copy, familiarly inscribed by Auden using his first name reserved for friends in the month of publication on the front free endpaper, "To Elinor Loring, with best wishes, Wystan Auden. Nov. 1933"; rarely encountered inscribed. First published in 1930, this revised edition contains seven new poems.
This copy also has nice provenance, with the bookplate of American poet Coman Leavenworth to the front pastedown. Leavenworth was a peer of Ginsberg at Columbia, and had beaten him for their class's "Poet Most Likely to Succeed Award".
Octavo. Original brown cloth, title to spine in blue, fore edge untrimmed.
Spine darkened, ends a little worn and frayed, cloth slightly soiled, a little scattered foxing to contents, otherwise clean, hinges firm. A good copy.
