Poems.Richmond, London: for the Author at The Hogarth Press, Stock Code: 139956
First edition, first impression, of this notably uncommon edition, handset by Virginia Woolf for the Hogarth Press. The Canadian poet Frank James Prewett (1893-1962) surfaced as a poet of the First World War, meeting Sassoon at Craiglockhart War Hospital. This is his first published collection of verse and "contains many of the poet's finest trench verses, such as 'Voices of Women', 'The Somme Valley, 1917', and 'Burial Stones', interspersed with more truly 'Georgian' poems of bucolic landscapes observed during his recuperation" (The Oxford Companion to Modern Poetry in English, p. 491). Woolmer notes that the number of copies printed is not known, but that 176 copies were recorded as sold to 31 January 1923.
Octavo. Original wrappers, sewn at the fold, titles black to front wrapper.
A very good copy, lightly rubbed and toned around edges with some minor marks, spray of spotting to front and rear blank, a sound and uncut copy.
