First edition, first printing, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper "to the Wymans w. every good wish this old nothing - John Berryman Ann Arbor March '65".Poems was Berryman's first separately published book, preceded only by his inclusion in the collective publication Five Young American Poets in 1940; 2,000 copies were issued, of which 1,500 were in the present wrappers, and 500 in boards.
