NotesFirst edition of the German scholar's book on the application of mathematical methods to stock exchange activities. Cantor (1829-1920) has been described by mathematics professors Dauben and Scriba as "without doubt the most outstanding historian of mathematics in 19th-century Germany" (p. 123). He delivered lectures on elementary mathematics, including "political arithmetic", at the University of Heidelberg where he was Privatdozent from 1853 until his retirement in 1913, and where he was the first to teach on the subject of the "history of mathematics".
Octavo. Original brown cloth, spine and front board lettered and triple-ruled in black, yellow endpapers.
